Sheet vinyl comes in wide rolls (typically 2m, 3m or 4m) and is cut to fit your room in one piece with no joins. LVT (luxury vinyl tile or plank) comes in individual planks or tiles that click or glue together. Sheet vinyl is generally more affordable and completely seamless — ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. LVT offers a more premium underfoot feel and is easier to repair a damaged plank.
Yes — vinyl is one of the best flooring choices for bathrooms. It's 100% waterproof, comfortable underfoot, easy to clean and doesn't go cold like ceramic tiles. Sheet vinyl is particularly good as there are no seams for water to penetrate. All our vinyl ranges are suitable for bathrooms.
Not always. In a small room like a bathroom, sheet vinyl can often be loose-laid or perimeter-fixed with a thin band of adhesive around the edges. Larger rooms and areas that see heavy rolling loads (like kitchen appliances) benefit from full-bond adhesive. We can advise on the right approach when we measure up — there's no extra cost for the visit.
A quality sheet vinyl, properly fitted on a flat subfloor, will typically last 10–20 years in a domestic home. The main factors are the wear layer thickness (thicker = longer life), subfloor prep (lumps and dips telegraph through over time) and avoiding dragging heavy furniture. Our top ranges like Evoke carry a 15-year warranty and a heavy-duty 0.60mm wear layer.
It can, but it shouldn't be. Any lumps, dips or ridges in the subfloor will eventually show through the vinyl and can cause it to crack or wear unevenly at high points. The subfloor should be flat to within 3mm over any 1.8m span. We use self-levelling compounds to correct subfloors as part of our fitting service — ask us about this when booking a visit.
For a lightly used bedroom or lounge, 0.15–0.20mm is adequate. For kitchens, hallways and busy family homes, look for 0.25–0.40mm. If you want maximum durability — or you're fitting in a rental property — choose 0.40mm or above. Our premium ranges like DenverTex (0.40mm) and Evoke (0.60mm) are built for heavy use.
