Common questions from customers in Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill — answered straight.
Glue-down (dryback) LVT is bonded directly to the subfloor with adhesive. It's more stable, thinner, and preferred in commercial settings or over radiant heating. Click LVT floats over the subfloor without adhesive — easier to install and easier to replace a damaged plank. For most domestic rooms, click LVT is the simpler choice. Our Colosseum and Galleria ranges are glue-down; Furlong Aurora and Endura SPC are click.
Yes — LVT is one of the best flooring types for underfloor heating. It conducts heat efficiently and doesn't expand as much as wood. Keep the floor temperature below 27°C (most manufacturers specify this), and bring the flooring to room temperature for 24–48 hours before fitting. Always check the specific product data sheet, as maximum temperatures can vary.
LVT is unforgiving over imperfections — any lumps or dips will telegraph through over time. The subfloor must be flat to within 3mm over any 1.8m span. On concrete, fill dips with levelling compound and grind down any high spots. On timber, check for squeaks and loose boards, punch down any raised nail heads, and apply a floor-levelling compound. We carry out subfloor prep as part of our fitting service.
LVT with a 0.55mm or thicker wear layer is highly resistant to everyday scratches and scuffs. The main risks are grit and sand underfoot (use entrance mats), rubber-backed mats or rubber tyres (can stain the surface), and heavy furniture dragged without pads. Pet claws are generally fine — LVT is one of the best flooring choices for households with animals.
LVT is waterproof, but a true wet room with a drain and constant water exposure is a specialist application. For bathrooms and rooms with occasional water exposure, LVT is an excellent choice. For a dedicated shower area, proper waterproofing of the substrate is essential, and you should consult us before choosing the product and fitting method.
SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) LVT has a rigid mineral core instead of a flexible vinyl core. This makes it more dimensionally stable, less susceptible to temperature changes, and better over slightly uneven subfloors. It's also completely impervious to moisture. Our Furlong Endura SPC is a good example — a premium click floor with 20-year warranty.
