The Ali Double Z is Stairrods UK's new flagship aluminium door bar — a dual-purpose trim that works for both carpet-to-carpet and carpet-to-hard-floor transitions in a single product. It addresses a real problem that fitters encounter with modern flooring: thicker underlays and pads that cause traditional door bars to sit too low or buckle. The Ali Double Z is designed with this in mind, providing a stable, secure transition even where the floor height is higher than older bar designs can handle.
It also stabilises the carpet edge during post-cleaning shrinkage — a common issue where carpets contract slightly after washing or steam cleaning, causing standard bars to lift or pull away. The precision-engineered aluminium profile holds firm.
One of the most useful design features is the convertibility: the Ali Double Z can be "peeled" on one side to transform it into a single Z-bar edge profile, making it useful for situations where only one carpet edge needs to be held. Available in 9 finishes — including Copper, which is not offered in the solid brass Premier Trim range — and in 90cm and 180cm lengths.
The DoubleZ profile grips both carpet edges — one on each side — creating a stable, hidden joint between two carpeted rooms. Ideal where pile heights differ or where a heavy-duty underlay raises the floor height.
Peel one side away and it becomes a single Z-bar — grips the carpet edge on one side and sits flush against a hard floor (LVT, laminate, tile or wood) on the other. One product for two situations.
